Starting to plan
Planning this cross country trip has been all-consuming. I’ve dreamed
of this trip for years and have thought about it everyday. I’m
graduating with my BA in Art History in May, and haven’t actively seeked
employment so all of my planning will become a reality. I currently
have my route mapped out, and have started thinking of things to do with
the help of many travel books.
This is my map now:
I’ve marked destinations and hours it will take to travel between them (according to Google maps). Right now the trip clocks in at about 112 hours of straight driving, and I’m aiming for 30 days to do it all. The route will take me through 14 states I've never been to, and 19 states all together. The plan right now is to take the Skyline Drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, through Tennessee, and Arkansas, and then connecting to the historic Route 66 in Oklahoma. That will take us through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona (pitstop in Las Vegas) to CALIfornia. Starting in LA, we'll travel up the California coast to San Jose, where we're going to have some downtime with family. From there, we cut across Nevada to Utah's Great Salt Lake (can't wait to see Smithson's Spiral Jetty!) and then hit Colorado. The final leg of the trip will hit Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and back to Pennsylvania.
I started pushing red pins into the places I’ve been with Kenny, and yellow pins into where I’ve been before that.
I can’t wait to add pins throughout the entire country. I’ve loved maps forever so planning this trip has so far been a super fun experience.
