DAY SIXTEEN, SEVENTEEN, EIGHTEEN

OCEANSIDE, CA - DISNEYLAND, CA - OCEANSIDE, CA

SIXTEEN

Took a day off today and hung out around the hotel. We did get our first taste of San Diego Mexican food though, and ate at Roberto’s Taco Shop #13. We got Carne Asada fries which are OMG amazing. Fries with steak, cheese, guac and sour cream is the best thing ever. The tacos were good too.

 SEVENTEEN

Went to Disneyland today! We woke up early around 6:30am, and started driving up I-5 to Anaheim a little later. We got to Disney around 9am (thanks to wonderful SoCal traffic!) and stopped in Downtown Disney to meet a friend of Lily’s family who works at the park. He thankfully got us into the park for a discounted price,  and offered us a 2 park pass for the day.

We drove back over to the main lot, which was huge, and extremely well organized. We parked in the Goofy lot, and went to line up for the tram. Fighting the crowds of excited Disney-goers, we got on the tram and went to stand in another line to get in. We finally made it through, and I was really surprised at how much it looks like Disney World’s Magic Kingdom! We walked down Main Street USA, through Sleeping Beauty’s Castle (the biggest difference here) and made it back to Fantasyland.

We watched a show about Mickey’s Magic Map, which was a lot of fun, and went on It’s A Small World.

This ride seems like it’s a lot bigger out here in California, and also includes all of the Disney characters within the ride. We went back to Toon Town for the kids, and I got my Disneyland hat!

We ate lunch up there, and then ran over to Splash Mountain to get Fast Passes, the time for us to return was 6 hours later, so we had a lot of time to spend back in Fantasyland with the kids! We went on a few more rides, saw a parade, and continued snacking.

We walked over to Frontierland, and went into the Haunted Mansion. Poor Riley was asleep until we got inside and woke up to a little bit of a surprise! We then went on Pirates of the Caribbean, which is really elaborate here, and then finally took our turn on Splash Mountain.

Of course by the time we got on it was chillier outside so it was kind of cold once we were done! We walked back to Main Street to do some souvenir shopping, and then crossed over into Disney California Adventure. This park is really cool, and not very obviously Disney. There’s a Route 66 themed area, a carnival park, and a bunch of other stuff. We ate dinner there, and saw a really awesome Grand Canyonesque ride. At around 10:30pm, 13 hours later, we finally called it a night a drove back.

EIGHTEEN

Kenny and I drove along the Coast Hiway into Oceanside, which is a super nice little beach town. There are a lot of shops and restaurants, and the beach here is beautiful.

We drove through to the next town over - Carlsbad. We ate at a little grocery store called Lola's Deli and Grocery and ordered burritos.

They were really delicious, and the store was ran by super cute grandmother types. Kenny stopped to get a car wash, while I dipped in to a thrift store, which I really enjoyed shopping at, especially because the styles in SoCal are really different from the East Coast. We drove back into Oceanside to meet Lily and the family at the beach.

The beach is really pretty and has a lot of little boulders and rocks. The water was cold, like everyone has warned me, but it wasn't too bad to not swim for a little while. The weather today was gorgeous, clear blue sky around 75 degrees. We went out for dinner to Joe's Crab Shack, and then called it a night!
