DAY TWELVE
LAS VEGAS, NV - SAN JOSE, CA
543 MILES. LEFT LAS VEGAS: 1PM, ARRIVED SAN JOSE: 10:30PM.
So today we had a change of plans. Originally, we were going to go from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, spend a few days there, and then head down to San Diego to meet Lily and her family. We got lunch at In N Out Burger before saying goodbye to Teddi in Vegas (who was such an amazing and fun host), and while sitting in the parking lot decided to add another 4 hours onto our 4 hour drive and go all the way up to San Jose. We were super excited to see everyone, and since my birthday was the next one, decided it would be really nice to be surrounded by family!
We pretty much spent this entire day driving, through the deserts of Nevada and California. We were shocked by the jump in gas prices, and paid $4.40 a gallon in Kettlema, California. This wasn't the most exciting drive in the world, but we were on a mission, one that couldn't even be interrupted by stopping for dinner (we bought nacho cheese cups at a gas station and dipped everything in sight.)
One notable thing was driving past the Harris Ranch. This sour, awful smell entered out car as we were driving down the high way, and after a few minutes of not knowing what it was, pavilions of cows appeared on our right. The pavilions went on forever, and there must have been over 100,000 cows. I have literally never seen more cows in my life. I googled "cow smell I-5" and came up with results for the ranch. I didn't really like this at all, but it was definitely notable.
We finally got to San Jose at 10:30pm, and were happily greeted by the kids! It is so great to see them after over a year, and this decision was definitely well worth it.
We're going to be leaving with them on their vacation to San Diego for about a week which will give me a lot to update on, but not a lot of driving to do!
