DAY TWENTY NINE

WORTHINGTON, MN - MINNEAPOLIS, MN - CHICAGO, IL

660.5 MILES

We left Worthington around 11am, and began to drive up to Minneapolis. This drive was about 3 hours, and the closer we got to the city, the worse and worse the driving became. I don't know if there's something in the water in Minnesota, but jeez they are bad drivers. It's not like aggressive like LA, but just kind of... dumb.

Our first stop was Matt's Bar where we had our first Jucy Lucy's! They're cheeseburgers with the cheese baked inside of the patty! The first bite can be treacherous, but they were really delicious! We received affirmation that Matt's Bar is indeed the best place to try this delicacy from locals, and we left very satisfied.

We then drove over to the Walker Art Center, a place I had been really excited about visiting. It's one of the top contemporary museums in the country, and it was really cool! I was super excited about seeing a Felix Gonzalez-Torres piece that viewers are able to take a piece of, so I got an awesome print! Besides that, I really enjoyed this museum, which also has a sculpture garden across the street, with the famous Claes Oldenburg spoon sculpture.

From here, we did some driving around Minneapolis, which is really clean and nice! We both knew that the main event was the Mall of America so we headed south from the city about twenty minutes.

We knew how serious it was going to get when we arrived at the parking garage(s) which each had like 20 levels. We walked in the mall, and first could not help but notice the huge theme park in the middle. It was Nickelodeon themed, and seriously looked like a lot of fun. The mall was four levels tall, and contained about 500 stores. There's an aquarium in the basement, and a multitude of restaurants and food courts. We spent a few hours walking around, shopping, and having a mall feast of Auntie Anne's, Villa Pizza, and Panda Express.

We decided it was time to get a move on as we were planning to make it to Madison, Wisconsin, which was about 5 hours away. Once we crossed into Wisconsin, we started looking for places to stop, and guess what... Remember those bikers? Yeah, they filled every motel through Wisconsin. At this point, we were only about 2 hours outside of Chicago, so we called Dave, who we were going to be staying with the next night and asked if we could arrive at 3am instead! He very kindly said sure, so while I missed out on Wisconsin cheese... we had an extra night with Dave!
